What is Cannabidiol (CBD)?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis plant and for our purposes here, specifically the hemp plant. This is a plant with a rich history as a medicine going back thousands of years. Today the therapeutic properties of CBD are being tested and confirmed by scientists and doctors around the world. A safe, non-addictive substance, CBD is one of more than a hundred phytocannabinoids, which are unique to cannabis and give the plant its robust therapeutic profile.

CBD is closely related to another important medicinally active phytocannabinoid: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that causes the high that cannabis is famous for. These are the two components of cannabis that have been most studied by scientists.
Both CBD and THC have significant therapeutic attributes. But unlike THC, CBD does not make a person feel stoned or intoxicated. Thats because CBD and THC act in different ways on different receptors in the brain and body.

CBD can actually lessen or neutralize the psychoactive effects of THC, depending on how much of each compound is consumed. Many people want the health benefits of cannabis without the high or with less of a high.

The fact that CBD is therapeutically potent as well as non-intoxicating, and easy to take as a CBD oil, makes it an appealing treatment option for those who are cautious about trying cannabis for the first time.

The hemp farm uses good farming practices and the CBD is extracted via CO2 extraction. It remains pure, potent and of good quality.

The Endocannabinoid System

The Endocannabinoid System is a biological system composed of neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors. These receptors work in conjunction with the ECS to facilitate communication between cells and nerves where previously little to no communication existed. This improved communication allows the body to function at a more optimal level of efficiency, by bringing it to homeostasis (balance).

Third-Party Laboratory Tests

Hemp vs Marijuana

Our cannabinoids are Industrial Hemp derived, as is allowed by the Federal Farming Bill. Unlike marijuana, Hemp contains extremely low (less than .3%) THC and is naturally high in CBD. Marijuana however, is high in THC and lower in CBD. THC is the compound in marijuana that is psychoactive.

Definitions to Know

Cannabinoid: One of a class of diverse chemical compounds that acts on cannabinoid receptors, AKA the Endocannabinoid system in cells that alter neurotransmitter release in the brain.

Phytocannabinoids: Any cannabinoid that is naturally occurring within the cannabis family of plants. Such cannabinoids include the more famous THC and CBD, but they also include other minor cannabinoids such as cannabigerol (CBG)

Cannabidiol: Cannabidiol is a phytocannabinoid discovered in 1940. It is one of some 113 identified cannabinoids in cannabis plants and accounts for up to 40% of the plants extract.

Mountain Pure has spent the past few years perfecting a unique recipe to create a broad-spectrum tincture that contains multiple cannabinoids, terpenes, and a potency that is therapeutic in nature, in order to deliver the enhanced benefits via the entourage effect, without the THC.

Entourage Effect: This is when multiple cannabinoid compounds interact synergistically to magnify the therapeutic benefits of the plants individual componentsso that the medicinal impact of the whole plant is greater than the sum of its parts.

Different Methods of Using CBD

Cannabis oil extracts can be taken orally, sublingually or applied topically. Concentrated cannabis oil extracts can also be utilized as an ingredient to vaporize or cook with. The time of onset and duration of effect vary depending on the method of administration.

Vaporizing with a vape pen offers the same immediate benefits of smoking but without burning the oil. The active ingredients are inhaled as a vapor and no smoke is involved.

Sublingual Tinctures herbal remedies in which the active ingredients are dissolved in a solvent. The concentrate is dropped under the tongue and absorbed through the oral mucosa. First effects are generally felt within 5 to 15 minutes and is good for consistent, discrete and timely dosing.

Edibles Foods or snacks cooked with cbd infused oil, which effects are slower (30-90 minutes) than for inhaled or sublingual. These can be an ideal method for humans, as well as, pets.

Capsules and Gel Caps These are similar to a vitamin or supplement whose duration and effect are similar to that of edibles, and give you a convenient way to pack around with you outside of the home. This also allows for the blend of CBD with other beneficial herbal supplements, such as the Mountain Pure Vitalize that is blended with moringa.

Topicals and Salves Cannabis extract can be infused in a balm, lotion or ointment and applied directly to the skin. Patients report that CBD topicals are effective for pain, inflammation, infections, and skin conditions.
